The main Swedish-speaking areas of Finland are: Åboland,  Åland,  Österbotten and Nyland. Click here for statistics.
Swede Finns in North America are Swedish-speaking Finlanders who emigrated from these western and southern parts of Finland and their descendants. The greatest waves of immigrants arrived in the United States and Canada in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Prior to that time Swedish Finns comprised 15% of the population of Finland. At the present time they represent only 6% of the population.

Available historical records indicate Swedish speaking Finns settled in at least seventeen regions of the northern United States, Canada and Alaska.

If you are looking for the name of a place and you can't find it in the municipality -list, check the "Parishes and addresses" -pulldown. The "Borgå stift - Swede-Finn parishes" in this pulldown shows links to all current parishes in Borgå stift, ie. the diocese for all swedishspeaking parishes. This page lists official email -addresses to most parishes.
